The foundation of progress in biomedical science is research including eye research. Centre's research team comprises both clinical and basic researchers, who collaboratively identify and carry out relevant research projects. Basic research, eye research at ICIRC is undertaken under the heads of cell biology, molecular biology, genetics and microbiology. Each of these has their own specially dedicated laboratory. In basic research of eye research, the focus is on pathophysiology of various eye diseases, molecular genetics of inherited eye diseases, gene cloning, mutation analysis, ocular infection and microbiology, ocular stem cells and the role of antioxidants in delaying the progression of eye diseases. The clinical research department is linked with the clinical evaluation of various diagnostic and surgical techniques. The emphasis is also given towards new ways for surgeries which are not only beneficial to the patients but economical also.
Iladevi Cataract and IOL Research Centre (ICIRC) is a DSIR and DST recognized centre and is involved in research including eye research on various aspects of eye diseases like Cataract Surgery, Glaucoma Treatment. Scientists from ICIRC have contributed to ophthalmic research over the years and received grants from various agencies such as DST, CSIR, ICMR, DRDO in last two decades.
